Experimental Animation (New Brief)

Hi everyone im back! This week we got introduced to our new brief, experimental animation. This brief allows me and the rest of the class to explore new areas of animations that are currently trending, such as VR, AR and working within 3D software. However, even though these are the recommended topics to explore, the brief is open for interpretation, it was made clear by the tutors that it s up to us what we want to explore.

I knew from the start that i wanted to avoid the topics that were given, as they can all relate back to 3D. Although i would love o create 3D work, i want to try push myself further. Therefore i will be looking into trends that stem from the 2D world of animation. Over the next few weeks you will see various sources of research that i have looked into and hopefully some early experiments that I may have started. One of my tutors works with Riso printing and has even given us the chance to use the printer to create a few frames of 2D animation. Considering this is a very unique method of animating, I am going to begin there.

These three characters will resemble my fire team form the game destiny, Me and my two friends. The character below is my character and you can see that although it is pixel art, it shares no characteristics from the last design, they are all going to be completely different and i cannot wait to see how all three compare to each other once they are finished. As for my dragon, i was able to add a lot more detail to both the horns and face. I even added an additional two horns to bring the character more to life and give him a more interesting silhouette. As you can see the character also has antlers and wisps coming from his chin, this was heavily inspired from Haku the white dragon from the Studio Ghibli movie 'Spirited Away.' Although I te...
