VFX - Research, Part 2

VFX and 3 Workflows  there are many workflows that I could use within the compositing project. I looked into a few behind the scenes a started researching workflows as I want to start doing a more industry-standard approach. I created a pipeline so I could reference and follow throughout my experimentation based on my previous knowledge of a workflow an my findings though the little bit of research that I did.

The Flash TV Show VFX Work:

Over the past few years I have really enjoyed watching 'The Flash' episodes that premiere every Tuesday. Although some of the VFX work can look a little cheesy, they always excel on making the flashes movements smooth and believable. This is the effect that I want to try create within one of my VFX experiments. If I can find a way to make my body produce lightening due to my overwhelming speed, I am confident that I could replicate the process to a decent standard. The research topics that I have looked into so far do not cover how to produce lightening over ones body so I am going to need to expand my research to other medias, such as Youtube, or even online classes to try and the processes used to create this effect. Hopefully by the next post, I will have found a way to approach this VFX experiment, as I do think this could be an incredibly fun shot to create for my starter experiment.

VFX Group Work:

This will be a smaller post compared to the others I usually show as I haven't begun the design process of my experiments just yet. Me and a few other members of my class decided to approach one of our experiments as a group. As a group we decided we wanted to create a war zone using Nerf guns. Throughout the VFX short we will be discussing which animated movie is the best, eventually we all start to disagree with each other and the conversation turns hostile which inevitably leads to us having a Nerf gun battle. This sounded like a really fun project, however I am still not entirely sure if I will have time to work on this short. I have some interesting ideas that I want to pursue and a project as massive as this would take up all my time. Fortunately the group decided that we could shoot the footage together but use it in our own way to contribute to our projects. This sounded like a much better idea and plus, using this approach...I get to play with some Nerf guns. Although I st...

VFX - Research, Part 1

Racka Racka  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz_cDc_2arKIb6SlJoqFT0w Racka Racka is a youtube channel and social account created by Danny and Michael Philippou. They call themselves 'wannabe filmmakers on a rampage' and create some fantastic shorts with good prop and special effects designs. I have been following their videos for a long time now and are a great influence on how stupidly brilliant a short can be with over the top jokes and sound VFX.

VFX Project:

This week, or class was presented with a new brief. This brief focuses around VFX and requires us to research into different VFX companies and use the knowledge that we acquire to create a series of VFX experiments. In my years of education I have only ever had one opportunity to create a VFX project and although it could have been a lot better, it was a decent first try. Throughout this project I am going to try reacquaint myself with the techniques that I used for VFX shot that I already created and hopefully learn some new skills and processes too. In the next few weeks you will hopefully see my skills develop in the field of VFX. I am going to begin by researching into various VFX industries such as Framestore, MILK VFX and Industrial Light and Magic. Hopefully, if I can understand the processes and workflows that they take to create the many VFX shots that they have created it will be a great first step into creating a series of convincing VFX shots.

Experimental Animation Hand in:

I must start off by saying sorry for the late update everyone, I handed in a few days ago and it was a right last week. It took all of the energy I had left to be able to finish all my work and present them at a decent standard within my sketchbook, so I took a few days off. This was a great project to be able to take part in, i learned a lot of new techniques that relate to 2D. This is an aspect of my work that I do not explore enough. When it comes to creating project work i tend to work in 3D software as much as I can, as I feel more comfortable and I am able to visualize my designs faster and easier. However, for this project I was able to take a step back from 3D and focus on various medias of 2D and I found it very rewarding to do. Although the next project is heavily related to VFX (CANT WAIT!), I will certainly try force myself to at least try form some development in 2D medias. Additionally, the next project also allows me to work in groups for some segments of the brief, such...
