Digital Story Telling - Research, Part 6

Sidequest This idea is heavily influenced by the YouTube channel I looked at called butter side down and the game Skyrim. The idea is to have the same format at the butter side down videos where it in the view of the character so the hand and feet will be visible. The idea is I would be sitting on a chair and my tummy will rumble. A quest will pop up saying get food, but on the way, loads of side quests will pop up and confuse me, in a rush to get them all done I will start braking things burning the food making a fire and destroy the house. Running out the house I will look up to a huge meteoroid coming for the earth and a side quest will pop up ‘escape the planet’ and it will end. It will be a great chance for VFX. I also want to include puppets that I will be adding too as they look amazing and fun

Story Telling Brief: Final Piece Progress 6

Hi everyone, this is going to be the final update for my 'Story telling' animation before I finish the final scene. I have over a week before hand-in and I yet to finish my animation an render it all. However, this week I was given some amazing news. A fellow student in my class (who is a talented musician) has offered to create a soundtrack for my animation for free. We have been discussing the soundtrack for the past few days and the few sound bites that he has sent over have been amazing and I cannot wait to show you all. Below you will see some of the final rendered scenes within my animation. There is a few more tweaks I need to make before I can show you the full animation. At this point, I am finalizing the last scene before I render the animation and take it into post editing software. I should be done just before hand-in which leaves me with enough time to finalize my development work. I will be back next week with a final update blog on my animation. I cannot wait for...

Digital Story Telling - Research, Part 5

Misunderstood Monster  It’s no secret that my favorite mystical creature is a dragon and since seeing smaug in the hobbit I have really wanted to create a project around one and I had fun with fire VFX in the last unit it would be nice to revisit and create something a bit more ambush. I do not want something slayed but instead seeing that the monster was misunderstood. I thought about the idea of having the real creature being something like a sheep (kind of like in how to train your dragon where the sheep dress up as dragons so the dragons will stop eating the) and accusations again the ‘dragon’ were just random events

Story Telling Brief: Final Piece Progress 5

Hi everyone, I am afraid the next few posts are going to be very short. I only have two weeks left to create this animation and I still have a lot to do. For this post I am simply going to show you the first final scene. I was able to full finish the astronaut scene and now I am working on the new scenes that will hopefully be revealed next week providing everything goes well. I hope you guy enjoy my first scene. It was a long and tough journey to finish this scene, but its finally done and I could not be more happier with the results! See you all next week! P.S. At this point I am working on multiple new scenes so hopefully Ill have some more to show next week!

Digital Story Telling - Research, Part 4

Falling down the street  As I already have a stair idea I might change this to something else. I got the though form an animation I saw in a previous course where it’s a shot of a street and someone is falling down it (slipped on a skateboard) and as they do the street turns into chaos, unfortunately, I could not find this but It would have been a perfect example as it was live footage that was covered in VFX to create all the distraction that is happening.  But an animation that is something similar to that short film would be  Jinxy Jenkins & Lucky Lou by Mike Bidinger & Michelle Kwon where we meet two characters a boy who is incredibly unlucky and bad things happen to him and a girl who is incredibly lucky and nothing bad happens to them. So, these two characters end up in a dangerous situation due to the boy’s bad luck but once the girl takes over they end up getting a series of events that help them survive traffic an more And my f...

Story Telling Brief: Final Piece Progress 4

Hi everyone! This is going to be a quick update as It has been a busy week and I am a little burned out. I have made significant progress with my scene, I have animated the character drifting through space, added some camera animations and composited the planet in the scene with the character so that I can match the lightening source for both objects. The next step is to add more assets. There is an assortment of assets within the 'Destiny_models' drop box, however I think I am going to add debris assets into the scene. This will give the impression that he and his crew may have been attacked. If i can make this look believable within my scene It will certainly add a more horror vibe to my animation. Again, sorry for the short post. Before Lighting Match: After Lighting Match:

Digital Story Telling - Research, Part 3

Space Ships! I have developed my space idea more but I'm wanting to have something after the stranded spaceman. I am unsure what I wanted but I am a huge fan of spaceships in moves but I have always been fascinated but simply shaped ships.  This obsession has stemmed from the ship death star sound in the Star Wars movie and the borg ships form Star Trek. There is something ominous about these ships. The simple design makes them more threatening. they feel more dangerous that they don’t need to try and look threatening. This is never truer than with the pyramid ships in Destiny. Not only does it follow the same concept but its triangle structure.  it’s always been known that in design especially characters that circle represent friends and safe, rectangle shows strength, stricter and reliability and triangle shapes are threatening and dangers. I am excited to get started on drawing up come concepts for this one as it really combines all my...

Story Telling Brief: Final Piece Progress 3

Over the past few days I have been trying to find methods that will improve my overall shot, but no matter how much I tried, my scene just seemed to look plain and boring. Therefore, I decided to make a backdrop. I needed to create something that was related to the scene but an object that wouldn't be to distracting, so I created a planet. I needed to create this planet from scratch as unlike the other models that the Destiny community provides, I needed full customization of my model. I began by watching a video tutorial by the 'PolygonIsland' YouTube video. This video covers how to create the planet of Jupiter, however, this will be a great base of which I can build my plant upon. By adding additional effects such as the planetary rings and color correction controls I was able to create the perfect planet for my animation. The task of creating the planet was very straight forward and if you want to follow the tutorial yourself I will place the link below. Considering how ...

Digital Story Telling - Research, Part 3

Journey and return Journey and return is a common type of storytelling and I had an idea of creating an adventure of someone going to the toilet and back only to be transported to a game like seres of events trying to get in his way. the idea was inspired but the old Donkey Kong games And I started looking at more complex obstacle games to help influence my ideas.   I am wanting a bit more than barrels. I started to look at Mario maker where players can create their own levels and some of the creations are just mad.   As this would be a lot of animating I start to look at examples from the game undertail where all the action is done with a little heart avoiding a range of randomized attacks. It might be something to keep in mind when developing this more

Story Telling Brief: Final Piece Progress 2

Over the past week I have been gathering multiple models from the drop box that the Destiny community provided. However, after I downloaded all these files, I realized that there was an issue, all of the files were Blender files. Blender is an industry used 3D software. This is a software that I have never used before, fortunatly Blender is also a free software, therefore I was able to download it and experiment around with the UI and new tools before beginning my animation. The UI is very different from Maya, (my primarily used 3D software), however the tools where all there. It took me some time learning all the new shortcuts and tool locations, but when I did I was good to go. Additionally, over the past week, I was also to create a narrative for my animation. I want tell a story of an Astronaut that is lost in space and there is an incoming threat that endangers him. I chose this narrative as it would be both creepy and visually stunning. I was very excited to begin my project so I...
