Digital Story Telling - Research, Part 1

Space  I knew I wanted to at least develop one space-themed idea and with the recent release of the halo infinite trailer where the chief is found floating in space, I knew what I wanted to try. I grew up on sci-fi and its always something this interests me and waiting for Alien. I have always been interested in creating suspense and the thought about being alone and that something out this is always bigger and out to get you is something I want to incorporate into this idea.  I nitially, I’m thinking of having a spaceman stranded floating though space with debris around him (showing the ship being destroyed) and something coming after him.

Story Telling Brief: Final Piece Progress 1

I have just been given the new Story telling Brief and I have decided to make some changes regarding my workflow. I am going to approach this brief very differently, this animation needs to be no less than a minute long so i need to begin my development as quickly as possible. Whilst I will still be looking at research materials, I will also be starting my projects final piece within a few days.  I want to challenge myself throughout this project and want to try focus on the narrative aspect of my work rather than the asset creation. Therefore I will be using pre-built assets from other games to form my scene. There is  a game that I love called Destiny, this is an open world Sci-fi genre game. Due to the massive following that the game has, the community have extracted some of the games files enhanced them so that people can make fan art or animations. When they extract the files, they re texture and re rig every model so that they are all ready for animation uses. The game c...

VFX Hand in (FINISHED)

Today I successfully handed in my VFX project. The past few days have been surprisingly calm, nothing went wrong. I just sat and organised all my work into sketchbooks and digital folders. It was very rewarding going through all my work and seeing what I created and I am very proud of what I was able to achieve. The next project is the last project of year 2 and I need give it everything I have! This year so far has been amazing, I have been achieving the grades that I want and creating work that I have always wanted to create. This VFX protect has definitely been one of the highlight of this year so far, as a massive gamer and fan of super heroes, being able to create these VFX experiments has been a dream come true. Although there was many challenged that was presented within this brief, it was still extraordinarily fun. I hope you all enjoyed following me on this journey and I hope you will stay with me for the next. I also have to give a big thanks to my girlfriend who kindly sat r...

Experiment 3 Doom Eternal Fire VFX Shot (FINISHED):

My hand in is now a few days away and I was able to finish my Doom Eternal VFX shot, sorry that I kept you guys in the dark for this shot. It wasn't intentional, I was just very busy trying to get it done. I decided to place myself (as the Doom Slayer) in a burning environment. In this case, it was my living room. Although fire seems easy in terms of VFX, this experiment was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Although, I wanted to challenge myself, I did not expect this experiment to take so long. When this project began my tutor gave us all his 'VFX asset' folder. This folder contained a series of VFX elements that he gathered over the years, and of course, it included fire. The fire wasn't hard ti implement into the scene, however whilst recording the footage I did not take into account that my body would be blocking the fire. This small mistake caused me a lot of problems. Fire is a forever moving element, therefore creating a mask a mask for fire was no...
