VFX Experiment 3 (Doom Eternal VFX Shot)

In a few days the new Doom game (Doom Eternal) will be releasing on all game platforms and as a bug fan of the game I thought I would create a VFX shot that relates to it. I thought this would be a good idea as I have pre-ordered the collectors edition of the game which includes the Doom Slayer helmet. This will be an amazing Prop to use within my VEX work, I went to check my pre-order today and I was even able to try on the helmet (image below). This one picture has enthused me to create my last VFX experiment of this project, and i cannot wait to begin. From now until I am able to pick up my helmet I will be researching into different ideas that would be suitable for a Doom related VFX shot. Once I have an idea on what to create I am going to start immediately so you guys will not have long to wait. Ill see you in a few days and Ill hopefully have my final experiment finished!

VFX - Research, Part 5

The Mill  https://www.themill.com The Mill is another company in England that I looked at and like Milk I created a minimap to help me visualize what they o a what Opportunites could could mean for me in the future.

VFX Experiment 2 (Justice League Flash movement effect):

This is my second VFX experiment that I have created for my project and again it all thanks to the knowledge that I gained from Film Learnin's YouTube channel. This experiment was a lot harder to create. Unlike the last flash experiment I had to incorporate a lot more of my own effects to try and make the scene more believable. This shot has went through many different iterations but this is the final version (I do not think I have any brain power left to create another version). I think I have rendered this scene around five times to try find the perfect balance of effects. However, although it took a lot of time and brain power I was able to create a new VFX experiment that I was proud of. You can even see that I added a VHS overlay to present the idea that I am testing out my new powers. Considering this project took so long I began to create a narrative to keep myself entertained. This experiment was tough, but it was also incredibly fun! Yes, there was challenges, but I really...

VFX - Research, Part 4

Milk VFX http://www.milk-vfx.com Milk is an independent visual effects company in London that created VFX for high-end TV shows and movies.  I created a min map that sums up what they have worked on the software that they have used and the job opportunities that they currently have. It is important to create these diagrams and it really has helped my reflective practice. I am almost coming to the end of the year and I want to start looking at what opportunities are out there not even to apply but to work towards. for Milk I was interested in the Tracking and Composting as they are the closest to what I'm interested in. after seeing how specific the jobs are I want to start refining my skill not so much stop certain processes but how to put myself out there and advertise my work.

Brickit

Whilst I was researching into VFX medias that I could use as a resource throughout my project, I came across a plug-in for Maya called Brickit. Brickit is a plugin that imports every LEGO brick into Maya with its very own snapping system, allowing anyone to be able to easily create LEGO models within Maya. Although I cannot say much about the programme as I have only just started using it, I can say that it is incredibly fun and theirs a lot of potential for me to use this new plugin within this VFX project. The plugin is 30 pound and it is worth every dime, so far I have been able to create a wide range of models and easily render them. Hopefully, If I have time, I will be able to composite some of these LEGO objects into the real world. I currently have a lot of plans for what i want to create within this project, however, if I have time to implement some of these new designs within my work than I will. If not, then I will definitely include them in a future project! Using Brickit so...

VFX Experiment 1 (TV Flash Running Effect):

Over the past week I have been watching Film Learnin's endless VFX tutorials in aims to understand the workflows that are used. I also watched his 'Flash Running Effect' to try replicate the process myself within After Effects and I believe that I have achieved this. Below you can see that I was able to create an entrance and exit using the lightening effects. This is a process that took a long time to achieve and I am not entirely sure that I would be able to describe my processes even if I tried. However, I will leave the link to the video that I followed below. Thanks to Film Learnin I was able to successfully create my first VFX experiment, and I am very happy with the results. Using the Footage that I previously recorded I was able to us the multiple effects that Film Learnin provided and create my own iteration of the Flashes movements. This experiment has enthused me to create a few more (at least one more) experiment using the demonstrations that Film Learnin has pr...

VFX - Research, Part 3

Maya to Nuke I am a huge fan of Maya and knowing the workflow between Maya and Nuke is a must in the industry and its something that I have not dived into it yet. I spoke to a friend that works for Framestone to help me understand the basics before I started experimenting and I create a pipeline out of this discussion This will really help me when creating my own. I am confident in modeling but I never create anything out of them and I would like to start to create my own compositions an animations.

Film Learnin (Youtube Channel):

Film Learnin is YouTube channel that I found whilst researching into methods of how to create the Flashes Lightening effect, and lucky for me, Film Learnin has covered multiple methods of how to approach this subject. In fact Film Learnin seems to be dedicated into creating almost every super hero effect seen on television known to man. The sheer amount of YouTube videos that demonstrate how to convey superhero effects is unbelievable. He has even created demonstrations of how to recreate the Flashes movements from the Justice League movie. The movements that the Flash has in the movie are completely different from the TV show but are still unique and interesting. Film Learnin also has a fun personality, he to create mini sketches within his videos showing the effects that he is about to demonstrate. He is a great Youtube creator and if you haven't heard of him Id recommend giving him a watch if your interested in VFX. Using Film Learnin's YouTube channel I would be able to lea...
